Erin has just completed the cover artwork for a new book, also published by Sylvan Dell. It's titled Multiply on the Fly, and uses insects to teach children about the basics of multiplication. More images to follow!

Erin is teaching in a variety of venues this month:

Lots going on in the month of May!

On Friday, the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History will be hosting the CSUMB Science Illustration Program's annual show, Illustrating Nature. This year's science illustration students will be on hand to speak about their work; the Museum will provide snacks and beverages. See the flyer below for more details—it will be a great event!

Erin will have a booth at the annual plant sale at the MEarth Habitat at Carmel Middle School on Saturday, May 8 from 10:00-1:00. She'll be selling prints and notecards; other vendors will be selling organic and native plant starts while the Cachagua Playboys provide music. Should be great fun!

The Art + Nature: Drawing from the Collections classes at the PG Museum are in full swing now. Erin's also offereing a wildflower sketching class next month through the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District. The class will be on Saturday, June 12 from 1:00-5:00 pm at Garland Park; go to http://www.mprpd.org/ for more information. Erin will also be teaching a scratchboard class through the PG Museum on June 20; be sure to check back in early June for more information.

Working in various media, students will explore plant and animal anatomy, drawing techniques, nature journaling, tips for sketching in the field, color theory and much more. Hummingbirds, butterflies and exotic flowers inspire the latest work by Pacific Grove illustrator Erin E. Hunter, whose art is on display at Monterey’s Café Lumiere through early November.
The public is invited to view Hunter’s “Prints of Selected Works, 2005-2008” beginning on Friday, October 2, during regular Café Lumiere business hours. The artist will greet guests during an opening reception at the café on Friday, October 10, from 7-9 p.m.


The current exhibit includes 20 archival prints made from original acrylic, ink and pencil portraits. The prints were influenced by Hunter’s coast-to-coast travels, including time spent in California, New York, Mexico and Hawaii. Framed and unframed prints will be on sale throughout the exhibit and are available by contacting Erin directly, or at eehunter.etsy.com.

Also in August, Erin is the featured artist at Vino 100 in Chico. This solo show will feature several paintings and drawings by Erin from 2006-2008; an artist's reception will be held on August 16 beginning at 4:30. The $5 admission fee covers a five-wine tasting as well. Two of Erin's paintings are featured at the 10th Annual Filoli Botanical Art Exhibit in Woodside, California. The show runs from July 12 to August 3, 2008. For more information, please visit www.filoli.org.

Also this month, a one-night show of Erin's work will take place on July 26, the weekend of Pacific Grove's Feast of Lanterns. Please email Erin for more information about time and place.

Erin spent time in June and July teaching classes in Art and Nature as part of Monterey Museum's summer art camp program. A show featuring her students' artwork will be held in August. Stay tuned for details!

A small selection of Erin's artwork is featured at Fournier's Bakery and Cafe in downtown Pacific Grove. Fournier's offers wonderful baked goods, fresh coffee and sandwiches, and is located at 650 Lighthouse Avenue.

In late April, Erin spent time teaching botanical illustration at Hilton Bialek Habitat at Carmel Middle School, and she is currently working on new paintings. Stay tuned for new work!

Blastoff!, a new book designed and illustrated by Erin for Sally Ride Science, is now available online for downloading. Blastoff! was written in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Dr. Sally Ride's first spaceflight, and details a space shuttle mission from launch to landing. Erin is the featured artist at a show opening on Monday, February 18, at Café Limelight in Santa Cruz. Fifteen pieces are showcased in the exhibit, which includes archival prints made from original acrylic, ink and pencil portraits of plants, insects and birds. The displayed work, inspired by Erin's time in California, New York and Washington, D.C., was created between 2005 and 2008. Framed and unframed prints will be on sale throughout the exhibit, which wraps up in late March.

Erin's illustrations are featured in eight books for Sally Ride Science, a company that publishes supplementary science books for middle-school students. The first four are part of a series on astronomy, and include the titles Dwarf Planets, Exoplanets, Stars and Tools of Astronomy. The remaining four books center on the theme of climate change, and include Atmosphere, Ecosystems, Oceans, and The Poles.
