February 2012

Throughout the month of February, Erin will be teaching her Art + Nature: Drawing from the Collections series at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. Classes may be taken individually or as a series; they cover a wide range of techniques and media, with specific instruction on a different topic each Sunday (botanicals, birds, mammals and insects). The book launch for The Great Divide has been moved to the first weekend of March. Join Erin on Saturday, March 3 from 2:00–4:00 pm at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History for a reading and light refreshments! Copies of The Great Divide will be available for purchase, along with A Day on the Mountain and Multiply on the Fly.

January 2012

Happy New Year! If your New Year's resolution was to spend more time being creative, then come to the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History for two of Erin's classes in January. On Sunday, January 8 from 1:00-4:30, Erin will teach Watercolor Basics; on Sunday, January 22, she'll teach Drawing Natural Objects. One of Erin's paintings will be featured in the California Native Plant Society's Conservation Conference in San Diego from January 12-14! Her painting of Smith's blue butterfly on coast buckwheat has been selected to be featured along other artists' work at the CNPS Botanical Art show. In February, Erin will reprise her Art + Nature: Drawing from the Collections series. Each Sunday, the classes will cover a different theme (botanicals, birds, mammals and insects) as well as exploring a variety of media. Stay tuned for more details.

Also in February, Erin will be launching her third children's book! The Great Divide is a companion book to last year's Multiply on the Fly. More details will be available at the end of January.

 

December 2011

Great news—Multiply on the Fly was just named a Eureka! Silver Honor Book by the California Reading Association!

For the second year in a row, I'll be participating in the Author/Illustrator Open House at Lyon Books in Chico on Saturday, December 3 from 6:00-8:00 pm. This event is a great chance to meet Chico-area writers and artists, while supporting a locally-owned bookstore. To learn more about Lyon Books, visit lyonbooks.com.

On Wednesday, December 7, I'll be at the Pacific Grove Library to read Multiply on the Fly during the library's after-school reading program at 3:45 pm. Please feel free to come by and participate!

November 2011

Lots going on in November!

On Saturday, November 5 from 3:00-4:30, Erin will be on hand at the artist reception for Nature's Jewels, an art show featuring work from the California Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. Erin's Three Columbine and Pollinators is on display in this show at the Environemental Education Center in Berkeley's Tilden Park. On Sunday, November 13, Erin will teach Painting with Acrylics at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History from 1:00-4:30 pm. The class will focus on experimenting with acrylic paint on a variety of papers and learning how to take advantage of its wide range of uses. September 2011

Please join Erin in celebrating the release of the new children's book, Multiply on the Fly! The book launch party will be held at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History on Saturday, September 10 from 2:00-4:00. Erin will be reading and signing books, which will be available for purchase. Hope to see you there!

On Saturday, September 24, Erin will sign books at Crossroads Books in Watsonville from 1:00-3:00 pm. Come out and support an independent bookstore!

Erin will reprise her Art + Nature: Drawing from the Collections series of classes in October at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. Classes will take place on four consecutive Sundays—October 9, 16, 23, and 30. Visit the museum's website or email Erin for information on pricing, supply lists, and other questions you may have.

May 2011

May is a busy month!

Saturday, May 7 is the 10th annual Plant Sale at MEarth/Hilton Bialek Habitat at Carmel Middle School from 10 am–1 pm. Erin will have a booth and will be selling prints, notecards, ChicoBags, T-shirts and copies of her children's book. Come peruse organic vegetable starts, native plants and wildflower seeds while listening to live music in the Carmel Valley sun! The Habitat is at 4380 Carmel Valley Road in Carmel; more details on the flyer below.

On Friday, May 6 from 5-7 pm, come check out the artist reception for the Illustrating Nature show at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. The show features the artwork of the students at CSU Monterey Bay's Science Illustration program. At the reception, you can meet the artists and hear them talk about their work; on Saturday, May 14, you can attend a scientific drawing demonstration. Be sure to check out the show before it closes on June 5!

On Sunday, May 15, Erin will teach Drawing Natural Objects at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. Students will learn to use colored pencil, ink and white gouache on toned paper to create sketches of feathers, shells, leaves and other small objects. All skill levels are welcome! April 2011

On Sunday, April 10, Erin will teach an Introduction to Scratchboard class at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. In this class, students will learn to use both white (non-inked) and black (inked) scratchboard, how to transfer images, and how to scrape ink away to create highlights. For more details and for examples of scratchboard artwork, please check out the flyer below.

Three of Erin's paintings are featured in The Art of Nature show at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History. This exhibit features the artwork of members of the Northern California chapter of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. Details can be found on the postcard below.

Erin has just finished her second children's book, Multiply on the Fly! Written by Suzanne Slade (http://www.suzanneslade.com/) and published by Sylvan Dell, this book teaches multiplication concepts using insects. Check back over the summer to find out more about the launch date.

In February, Erin will be doing a presentation of her artwork and career as an illustrator at Orchard Elementary School in Vacaville. She will also be reading and signing A Day on the Mountain at Borders bookstore in Sand City on Saturday, February 12 at 11:00 am. Stop by and say hello!

Lots going on in the month of May!

On Friday, the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History will be hosting the CSUMB Science Illustration Program's annual show, Illustrating Nature. This year's science illustration students will be on hand to speak about their work; the Museum will provide snacks and beverages. See the flyer below for more details—it will be a great event!

Erin will have a booth at the annual plant sale at the MEarth Habitat at Carmel Middle School on Saturday, May 8 from 10:00-1:00. She'll be selling prints and notecards; other vendors will be selling organic and native plant starts while the Cachagua Playboys provide music. Should be great fun!

The Art + Nature: Drawing from the Collections classes at the PG Museum are in full swing now. Erin's also offereing a wildflower sketching class next month through the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District. The class will be on Saturday, June 12 from 1:00-5:00 pm at Garland Park; go to http://www.mprpd.org/ for more information.
